Over time, the natural process of ageing, the over use of muscles and various other factors all contribute to the formation of wrinkles. There are a number of treatments available which will be discussed during your consultation, however, one of the most requested treatments for alleviating wrinkles is the use of botulinum toxin type A ( Botox, Dysport etc). This is a purified protein produced by the clostridium botulinum bacterium.
It has been used to safely treat a wide range of medical conditions for over 60 years. The initial effects vary from person to person. Working by temporarily weakening the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles, allowing them to relax.
Deep lines will be softened but may take several treatments until the optimum result is seen. Fine lines can almost disappear. You will usually see some relaxation of lines and wrinkles within 48-72 hours, but it may take up to 14 days to see the final result. At this point clients will be offered a follow up review to assess progress and answer any questions that may have arisen. The final effects will usually last between 3-5 months.
Botulinum toxin can only be prescribed in a face to face meeting by a qualified medical prescriber, such as a doctor, dentist, pharmacist prescriber or nurse prescriber.
The person prescribing botulinum toxin is ultimately responsible for the safe administration of the treatment. Jennie Mortimer is an experienced and fully qualified registered nurse prescriber.
